On my way to the aquatic gardens for the first time in 2026, this big red shouldered hawk was just off the bike trail, along the river.

October 25th 11-4pm
I will be selling framed prints and photo note cards (blank inside).

There is some glare in the photos above. At this link are some of the images that will be for sale (in a more clear format):

Cormorant
We went a little overboard with the decorations this year, but the kids in the neighborhood are super delighted to pass by on their way to the park. Most of the adults also seem to smile as they walk. We usually have free stickers and those are also very popular.
Lots of people take picture, but most forget to use our hashtag: #DCflamingos
We have a selfie-frame and an illuminated arbor:

There is no way to have an experience as rich as their guided pontoon boat tours for any price. Our guide today told us about birds, bird migration, and invasive plant species along the Anacostia River. She bubbled with excitement and enthusiasm. Good thing she spoke loudly and did not need the boat’s sound system, which sounded worse than a toad with a sore throat.
Another thing to note is that the boat tour costs less than $5
Look at the eyes!
